2009 - 2010 Season The 2009-2010 Season at Penumbra Theatre Over three decades of exploring the African American experience, we have learned that ultimately history lives in the people – everyday people like you and me. We must care for our history and more importantly, care for the people who have carried it for us. This year, we lost a dear friend and colleague, Claude Edison Purdy. A founding company member, Claude was instrumental in the creation and realization of Penumbra. In honor of his vision and artistry, we dedicate the 2009-2010 season to him, a true keeper of the flame. As a nation we find ourselves in a time of great challenge and opportunity – a time to explore change, the notion of progress, and the role of our stories in the creation history. I hope these plays help you take inventory of the things that really matter in life and that you find strength in celebrating those you love.
