Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers (Sept. 23 - Oct. 15)
Written by William S. Yellow Robe, Jr. Directed by Lou Bellamy Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers tackles the historic clashing of two fiercely proud yet oppressed cultures, pitted against one another by Westward expansion. The Native American and African American communities share a remarkably complicated and tragic history. The play depicts the homecoming of Craig Robe, grandchild of a buffalo soldier and a Native American woman. Isolated by his lack of community, he turns to those whose blood runs through his veins. Craig understands his true community is his family, but his family represents a past not yet healed. This production marks an extraordinary collaborative effort by a renowned Native American playwright and a nationally recognized African American theatre company to face the subject head on. Complicated, insistent and hopeful, Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers is sure to be an astounding opening to a stellar season. September 23 through October 15, 2005 Show times: Wednesdays 10am, Thursdays 7:30pm, Fridays 8pm, Saturdays 2pm and 8pm, Sundays 2pm and 7:30pm. Talk Backs Symposia Study Guide
