Ain't Misbehavin' Director's Statement THE THREE M’s
When you have joy….it’s something you can’t keep to
yourself.
THE MAN:
Fats Waller’s joy of life spreads like wildfire. Through his comedic attitude, his larger than
life personality, and his moving stride piano, Waller made history in 1942 when
he became the first jazz soloist to play Carnegie Hall.
THE MUSIC:
Waller’s music had the great ability to allow us to laugh in
the face of a mountain of problems with song’s like “Lookin Good and Feelin Bad,” “That Ain’t Right,” “Find out How They Like It,” and so many more. A prolific composer, musician, and performer,
he spread the rhythm of life around, just by living life to the fullest.
THE MESSAGE:
Now in 2006, here at Penumbra Theater, we have this wonderful
musical Ain’t Misbehavin’.
This show features the Twin City’s
finest, all underscored by the fingers of Sanford Moore and the band. Because
Fats Waller passionately pursued his dreams, he created cutting edge music that
would stir our souls forever. I want you
to love the music, enjoy the show, and always remember to spread your own
rhythm around.
