High quality and authentic black theater allows us to preserve our African American identity, culture and history in honest and uncompromising stories. Through OKRA, our new play development program, we ensure that these stories are written and told. Playwrights develop their plays here without restriction or reservation in a safe, nurturing environment.
The program has three components – the expansion of early ideas, a reading series, and a week-long workshop. An exciting part of the workshop is the New Play Festival, Word(s)Play! featuring staged readings of selected plays in June 2012. This event is open to the public and includes post-show discussions with the playwrights, artists and audience - a rich opportunity for engaged feedback. Your participation is an invaluable part of this exciting process. Join us as we journey a play from the page to the stage. See you in the theatre! Dominic Taylor
