Radio Golf Black Pearl Sings! Black Nativity: A Season for Change Two Old Black Guys Just Sitting Around Talking

While we take inventory of the collective progress made as a nation, history has taught us to take nothing for granted. At Penumbra, we take pride in representing the African American experience throughout our country's past and present, looking towards the future. Ultimately, what we find is that history lives in the people  everyday people like you and me. We must care for our history and more importantly care for the people who have carried it for us. It is only through the prism of the past that we can forge a path forward.

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to enjoy this season's lineup as we explore change, the notion of progress, and the role of individual and collective stories in the creation of history. Radio Golf examines the damage done by burying the past for personal gain. Black Nativity: A Season for Change celebrates the bonds of family and the power of faith, which give us the strength to go forward, together. Black Pearl Sings! warns that sometimes parts of our past are preserved for all the wrong reasons. And, in Two Old Black Guys Just Sitting Around Talking we learn that the simple act of recounting our lives is sometimes the most meaningful way to share our history.

We are in both exciting and challenging times. It's a wonderful moment to take inventory of the things in life that really matter: family, community, our stories. I hope Penumbra's season helps you do this, and in watching our plays, you are able to face the future from a stronger place.
