Ideas In Action: Experimental Programs In Development
At Penumbra, we believe that our art and our educational programming must be accurate, authentic and practically applicable to those whose lives and communities intersect with our theatre.
The following experimental programs are exciting opportunities that Penumbra finds worthy of further development. Penumbra is seeking individuals and groups interested in participating in trials for feedback and evaluation. If the response is positive, you may see these programs return in the coming season as primary offerings!
If you are interested in participating in one of these experimental programs, please contact Education Director, Sarah Bellamy.

Salon Series
Cultural Studies and Critical Inquiry
The Penumbra Salon is an intellectually rigorous forum for discussion and critical analysis of topical issues and themes raised by the drama. Interdisciplinary roundtable discussions focus on the historical, cultural and representational importance of the African American dramatic and literary canon.
Salons will examine the intersection of cultural performance and writing, raising questions about the nature and function of storytelling, drama and literature. Conversations will complicate connections between race, class, gender, ethnicity and sexuality, challenging traditional approaches to critical inquiry in the humanities. Classes are led by faculty from Macalester College, Carleton College, The University of Minnesota and Hamline University.
