How do I apply for Summer Institute?
Applying for SI is easy! You can fill out your application right now. Be sure to answer the questions in order and click submit when done. Admission Closed for Summer Institute 2008.

When is Summer Institute?
Summer Institute runs Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Orientation Day is scheduled for Saturday June 21, 2008. Classes begin on Monday June 23, 2008. The final performance will take place on Saturday July 19, 2008. Some optional Saturday events may be scheduled.

Who is eligible?
Any student age 13-18 who is registered in school is eligible to apply.

Where is Summer Institute?
The first three weeks of Summer Institute classses, June 23 - July 12, will be held at the University of Minnesota Rarig Center on the West Bank Campus.   The last week, July 14 - July 19, will take place at Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul as we prepare for the final performance!

What is the deadline for applications?

How do you select students?
Students are selected based on their commitment to studying the craft of drama and using theater to promote social change. Students should be excited, enthusiastic and committed to completing the Summer Institute Program. A positive attitude, a collaborative spirit and putting forth a sincere effort are all key elements to creating a wonderful and supportive program.

How many students will be admitted?
The Summer Institute program will admit 30 students in 2008.

When and how will I know if I am admitted?
The Summer Institute Program Coordinator will contact you to let you know that your application was received within one week of you submitting your application.  Letters of acceptance will be mailed on May 30, 2008.  Those who are not accepted into the program will receive a detailed letter explaining the decisions.

What is the tuition for Summer Institute?
The tuition for 2008 is $400 per student. This includes classes and registration. Scholarships are available to qualifying students.

Are there scholarships available?
Penumbra Theatre provides five (5) scholarships per year for the Summer Institute Program. The scholarships cover full tuition. To be considered for a scholarship, please fill out the appropriate section on the enrollment application form. If you have questions please feel free to contact the Education Office at 651-288-6791.

Should I bring a lunch?
Yes. You should bring a healthy lunch and a refillable water bottle to Summer Institute every day.

How do I get to Summer Institute?
If you do not have a parent or guardian who can drop you off, you may take the bus to Summer Institute. Bus passes are provided for students who need them after the first day. Summer Institute can also help coordinate carpool teams after the first day.
