REDSHIRTS by Dana Yeaton nominated for two Helen Hayes Awards
February 29, 2008; St. Paul, MN: Dana Yeaton's play REDSHIRTS, a world premiere co-production of Penumbra Theatre Company of Saint Paul, Minnesota and Round House Theatre of Bethesda, Maryland, has been nominated for two 2008 Helen Hayes Awards. Named in honor of Washington, DC native and "First Lady of the American Theatre" Helen Hayes, the awards honor excellence in professional theatre in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. REDSHIRTS was produced at Penumbra in September 2007 and at Round House during October and November 2007.
REDSHIRTS was included among the nominees for the prestigious "Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical." Other plays in this category include Moises Kaufman's 33 Variations and Sarah Ruhl's Dead Man's Cell Phone.
Penumbra company member Regina Marie Williams was nominated in the "Best Supporting Actress, Resident Play" category for her performance in REDSHIRTS.
Nominees for the 24th Annual Helen Hayes Awards were announced at a press conference on February 25, 2008. Award recipients will be named during a ceremony at DC's historic Warner Theatre on April 28.
