Purpose of Position:
In coordination with the Technical Director, the Production Manager provides support for all performance-related events by assisting the Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, and Education Director with the financial coordination, staffing, scheduling, artistic coordination, and management of all aspects of all performance/production programming in order to ensure efficient, effective, and timely production of performance-related events and events involving Penumbra Theatre Company members. Production Manager is the primary liaison between production and all other departments.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:
Financial Coordination
Budget and track all production and most show related expenses
Provide Finance Department with up-to-date cash flow projections and reviews expense reports (weekly)
Process payroll requests and check requests for materials and production related services
Distribute show related payroll
Staffing
Recruit, interview, hire, and train production staff (including stage managers, technicians, production assistants, and overhire as needed)
Manage and distribute production contracts (and other HR related paperwork)
Monitor union rules and regulations - Actors Equity and United Scenic Artists
Scheduling
Schedule production deadlines, meetings, rehearsals, and performances
Create and manage season calendar for all production and theatre (space) related events
Update and distribute season calendar and deadlines
Monitor rental schedules
Artistic Coordination
Supervise script inventory and distribution
Review guest artist logistics as they relate to production
Management
Review designer/tech specs (including advance and pre-production elements)
Supervise designer/production deadlines
Supervise show related production staff
Coordinate production meetings and post mortems
Create, maintain, and update policies, procedures, and training materials for Production Department
Review and help to maintain safety standards (OSHA and Equity)
Create and maintain production / contract database (as needed)
Keep up with new technology and implement as needed

Shares responsibility for supervision of production staff with Technical Director
Qualifications
The Production Manager must be capable of interacting with all members of the Penumbra Theatre family, including guest artists, the general public, Parks and Recreation, general contractors, and people affiliated with the Martin Luther King, Jr. / Hallie Q. Brown Community Center. 5 years production management preferred.
Candidates must have demonstrated attention to detail, planning and budgetary skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. Candidates must also have strong organizational and computer skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a track record as an effective team builder and leader who is also willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Candidates must also be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule (including evenings and weekends); have a basic understanding of ground plans and technical schematics; and have the ability to lift 75 lbs and climb ladders. General knowledge of technical theatre, industry tools, and computer software is required. Special consideration will be given to individuals with a proven safety record (in any industry or capacity).
