ABOUT THE EVENT

Families are invited to join Penumbra for our children’s Banned Book Club: My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis. This book, written by the mother of a “princess boy” who prefers dresses and tiaras to his “boy” clothes, celebrates gender expression of all kinds for young people. Following the reading, families are invited to stay for a guided conversation about the importance of self-expression, supporting the people we love when they try new things, and loving ourselves exactly how we show up in the world. After the discussion, we’ll have snacks in the lobby as well as a self-made fashion show: we’ll pull from our big dress-up box and don our tried-and-true favorite outfits and try some new styles. Snap some photos and strut your stuff! Feel free to come to the event in your best and loudest outfit—time to show off you in your favorite way!

This event is part of Penumbra’s Banned Book Club, which creates space to share and protect stories that are challenged or restricted in schools, libraries, and other institutions. Snacks will be available in the lobby after the event.

The event is free for families, but registration is required.
