ABOUT THE EVENT
PARIAH
Dee Rees
86 minutes, 2011
An inspiring and heart-rending coming-of-age story, Pariah follows a 17-year old girl as she discovers her sexuality and challenges her family’s expectations of who she is to become. Writer/director Dee Rees’ sensitive and empowering depiction of Alike’s journey to selfhood earned wide praise at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Rolling Stone called the film “vibrantly alive,” and the LA Times “a stinging, street-smart story.” Pariah introduces audiences to a tenacious young heroine determined to live her life authentically and out loud.
