Sunday Suppers: Folktales
ABOUT THE EVENT
Sundays offer a day of rest, renewal, and togetherness within the black community. In February, you can join us for a communal meal and animated readings of classic black plays and stories performed by Penumbra Company members. A great event for the whole family to celebrate the creativity, tenacity, and sustenance of African American culture. Let’s nourish ourselves.
FOLKTALES
Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 4-6pm
Cherished folktales collected by Sterling Brown, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Arna Bontemps were passed down generation after generation. They are imbued with love and a desire to protect young people from the real dangers of our grown-up world. Folktales helped prepare youngsters to overcome adversity with subtle lessons about racism, poverty, justice, and freedom. Recommended for children 5 and up. Includes dinner and reading.
